costa mesa high school class of sixty five

he collected a bunch or great photos

and i got more from the orange county historic society

much of orange county was like this before the land rush

orange groves, bean fields, beet fields and lemons

approximately center street - locale of the new house

we were there long before the golf courses and country clubs

upper newport bay was called back bay

it's where larry motschenbacher and i found arrowheads

and one ornery scorpion

the boys club on nineteenth street

where i played the game "catastrophe" and learned some lapidary

from mr and mrs thunstrom

costa mesa methodist church

we hung out in the tower

that's where i had my first real kiss with linda fugate, the pastor's daughter

linda and i shared the same shrink for a brief period of time

downtown costa mesa

tustin avenue

a block over from elden

where the plane crashed in the street

and very close to where i had the garage apartment in sixty two

the fish fry parade

where my sister alaine served as queen

and slept the night before with her head hanging off the bed

so as not to spoil her beehive coiffure

 the dome at costa mesa high

our outdoor cafeteria and hangout

balboa's rendezvous ballroom is the long building at the left

this is where the surfer stomp was born

i am the boy with his hand raised toward the left

imagine my amazement when i found this photo

while searching the web for images of costa mesa

then, after having the shot on this site for at least two weeks

recognizing myself in the picture.

this was the night when claudia and the crystals

performed their new record "little love of mine"

sharing the stage with dick dale
