RICK PERRY GOES TO CHURCH,

Governor Rick Perry does not want to grant a posthumous pardon to a man who died in prison while serving time for a rape he didn't commit. The guv's excuse is because a proposed constitutional ammendment to give him that power did not pass the Legislature.

Timothy Cole spent the last 25 years of his life in prison, where he died in 1999. He was exonerated this year by a Travis County judge after DNA testing cleared him of the rape of a Texas Tech University student.

The fact that Perry is a weasel is a surprise to nobody.

We can bet that if the request had come from the family of a crony, the pardon would have been granted on the spot.

Perry hides behind the law when it suits him, and flaunts his contempt for the law when it suits others.

Dear Lord, if I ever go to Perry's church, I pray you give me the strength to ask him, "What is the golden rule?"

Nancy Overton, who joined the pop group the Chordettes in 1958 and melded her mellifluous low tones into their barbershop-quartet-like harmonies on some of their later hits, died on Sunday in Blairstown, N.J. She was 83 and lived in Hackettstown, N.J. The cause was esophageal cancer, her son Rick said. Ms. Overton sang on the original recordings of two Chordettes hits: “Zorro,” a vocal version of the theme from the hit television show that climbed to No. 17 on the charts in 1958, and “Never on Sunday,” the title song of the movie starring Melina Mercouri, which made it to No. 13 in 1961.  Anne Swain (she preferred her childhood nickname, Nancy) was born in Port Washington, N.Y., on Feb. 6, 1926, one of two daughters of Philip and Edith Swain. Her father was a physicist; her mother played the organ in church and taught singing. She married Hall Overton, a jazz pianist, in 1946; he died in 1972. Besides her son Rick, of Los Angeles, Ms. Overton is survived by another son, Steven, of Placitas, N.M.  – by Dennis Hevesi New York Times April 11 2009.

Estelle Bennett - at left, with her sister Veronica and cousin Nedra Talley - has died at her home in Englewood NJ. She was 67. She was found on Wednesday in her apartment by a friend, after family members had been unable to reach her for several days. The cause was colon cancer. WASHINGTON — In an interview two weeks after leaving office, former Vice President Dick Cheney predicted a “high probability” of a nuclear or biological attack in the next few years and said the Obama administration was approaching a “tough, mean, dirty, nasty business” of keeping the country safe from terrorists too timidly. Mr. Cheney singled out Mr. Obama’s decision to close the detention facility at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, and to ban coercive interrogation methods as changes in course that could make the country more vulnerable. He also sought to justify the Bush terrorist surveillance program and the antiterrorism legislation called the USA Patriot Act. “Those policies we put in place, in my opinion, were absolutely crucial to getting us through the last seven-plus years without a major-casualty attack on the U.S.,” he told Politico. In the interview, Mr. Cheney offered a pointed critique of the Obama administration while expressing near total confidence in his own record and that of former President George W. Bush. Mr. Cheney was unapologetic about the previous administration’s failure to head off the economic downturn that began to take shape on Mr. Bush’s watch. “We did worry about it, to some extent,” he said. “I don’t think anybody actually foresaw something of this size and dimension occurring.” As for the new White House team, he said: “I think they’re optimistic.
