I have been a real slacker about adding photos to match the Facebook gang. Typical attention deficit disorder. If only we knew then what we know now about such things. I'll try to get back to it when the Class of 62 Fiftieth Reunion approaches. |

I remember like it was yesterday how "Little Love of Mine" was on KRLA's rate-a-record or something like that. It was a thrill to hear the song on the radio. Claudia Symington sang lead with Jill Stewart and her brother Jack Alexander doing back-ups The record was up against Danny and the Juniors doing a remake of "One Summer Night" by The Danleers. The winner would get on the station's playlist.
It had been awhile since Danny and the Juniors had a record on the radio, so this release was kind of a comeback for them. (They came to fame with "At The Hop" in 1957 and "Rock and Roll is Here to Stay" in 1958) It was no surprise that "One Summer Night" made the playlist instead of Claudia, Jill and Jack's record. To make matters worse, the catchy intro was "borrowed" by Phil Spector for his production of "Pretty Little Angel Eyes" by Curtis Lee & the Halos which came out later that year (1961) Claudia's record was released on Lew Bedell's Dore label which was based in a kind of compound behind where The Brown Derby used to be - Vine between Hollywood and Sunset. There were a few labels with offices there but all I can bring to mind are Dore and Era. In 1981 I went knocking on doors in the area -- still active after twenty years. This was when I was scouting gigs and stuff for my Jerryskids band. I encountered a fellow (name name name!) who was interested in using a new recording of one of our signature songs, "The Love Theme from Sharon Tate's Baby." You can read about the whole sordid, sorry tale somewhere in but as of this date - 13 February 2010 - I don't know where. |
